"Expressions" by Melanie sells porcelain greenware figurines. We have 29 different Figurines, 18 different Temples, and 3 different Nativity sets. Prices start at $12.00 and go up from there. Please see our catalog pages to see what we offer.

We offer an oppourtunity for you to clean your own piece(s) of porcelain greenware figurines either individually or in a group setting. This will give you the chance of being involved in making your own figurines and giving them a personal touch. This lowers the cost of the figurines compared to retail prices which start at $30.00 for finished products.

A porcelain greenware figurine is made by pouring porcelain slip (mud) into a mold. Once the porcelain slip (mud) has set, it is removed from the mold and the figurine is allowed to dry for three days. After that, the porcelain greenware figurine is ready to be cleaned to remove the seam left from the mold and to remove any rough spots on the figurine. After the porcelain greenware figurine has been cleaned it is fired in a kiln to harden the porcelain. It is then sanded lightly with a "sanding" sponge. The figurine can then be painted and/or be mounted on a base.

We suggest that you do not paint the porcealin figurine as it already has a lovely finish. Paints and glazes are thick and they tend to cover up a lot of the detail on the porcelain figurine, especially on the face and hair.

If you choose to purchase porcelain greenware figurines individually you can either clean them at our place or take them to your home to clean them. Once cleaned you can return the figurines to us so that they can be fired in a kiln. It normally takes us about 2-3 weeks to get them fired (this gives us a chance to get a full kiln load that can be fired at once). We are willing to work with you if there is a need to get them back sooner. After the figurines have been fired you can then pick them up. We provide a "sanding" sponge that you then use to sand the figurines.

For group settings we co-ordinate with a designated person on scheduling the event and taking orders. We provide order forms that are distributed to the individuals. We need to start taking orders about 4-6 weeks before the scheduled cleaning day. This allows us to get all of the porcelain poured and dryed. It is a time consuming process since a mold can only be used 3 times every other day.

Besides being able to see the pieces of porcelain on this website we also lend you a set of porcelain that can be shown to the group. Each week we will check with the designated person to see what has already been ordered. Please do what you can to get the majority of orders placed at least 2 weeks ahead of the scheduled cleaning day.

On the day of the scheduled group meeting we will bring the porcelain greenware figurines to the meeting. We will provide all of the cleaning tools and supplies that are needed. The only thing that you need to furnish is either paper or plastic to cover the tables you will be cleaning the figurines on.

We will give instructions on how to handle and clean the porcelain greenware figurines. Most porcelain greenware figurines takes about 45 minutes to clean. During that time we will be available to assist those who would like our help. If a porcelain greenware figurine is broken while being cleaned we will mend it if possible. If not, we will replace the broken one for free.

After the porcelain greenware figurines have been cleaned we will take them back to our place of business and fire them in our kiln. This will take about 3-4 weeks to complete. Once completed we will get the porcelain figurines back to the designated person so that he/she can get them distributed to the individuals. We provide a "sanding" sponge that the individuals then uses to sand the figurines. It takes about 5 minutes to sand each porcelain figurine.

It is not hard to clean porcelain greenware. We have had people from 4 years old to 90 years old clean porcelain greenware figurines. It just takes some time. This cleaning time spent by you is what lowers the cost.

We also sell Pine and Oak wood bases. The Oak wood bases are completely finished and includes a name plate. The Pine wood bases are machine sanded to get the flat surfaces smooth. They will need to be hand sanded by you to smooth the edges and corners. You will also need to stain and/or varnish them. The porcelain figurines will need to be glued to the wood bases. You need to use an all-purpose "Tacky Glue". We like to use Aleene's Original "Tacky Glue" which we purchase in the crafts department at Wal-Mart.
